Journeys ….

Journeys ….

We are at that time of year where will be doing leavers services with children moving  new schools. A time of great excitement and worry as they make changes in school environment and meeting new people.

Also at this time of year many of us are getting ready to go on holiday making journeys throughout the UK and into Europe and some further afield.

Whatever journey we are making we need to be as well prepared as we can be. As you know I enjoy cycling but you need to be prepared. Ensure that I have a bike which was in good order and suitable for a journey, I need to make sure that I have suitable warm clothing for the time of year and I also need to be visible so I wore the brightest cycling clothes I could find including my long sleeved bright yellow Arsenal shirt. I also need food and drink for the stops I would make.

So when you go to a new school you need to be prepared, a new uniform and books and when you go on holiday you need to be prepared for where you are going. Anything from swimming trunks and shorts to thick woollen jumpers and wet weather gear.

We also need to protect ourselves as we journey through life and a good source of inspiration and protection can be found by sharing this journey with Jesus Christ. I often say if you are afraid, put out your hand and Jesus will put his hand in yours and give you comfort and strength. And if we look in the Bible there are many words which can help us to be protected and give us strength.

But I would like to suggest that you take the words from Colossians 3:14-17 and ‘clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him’.

You really can’t go wrong if you clothe yourselves with the words and love of Christ as you journey through life.

Have a Good Holiday and see you all in September!
